Learning Objectives
The course aims to provide students with the knowledge of groundwater modelling, and of in-situ techniques.
Prerequisites
Aquifer Exploitation. Wells and tests. Interpretation methods (Theis, Thiem, ecc.). Flow in porous media. Groundwater in fractured rock masses and geologic complexes. Pollution of groundwater. Hydrogeology of unsatured zones.
Teaching Methods
Lectures, Seminars, and Field/Laboratory Activities
Further information
Attendance is strongly recommended.
Type of Assessment
Oral examination
Course program
Part A
Steady and unsteady state. Well in unconfined aquifer: Theis solution. Logarithmic approssimation of Jacob. Leaky aquifers. Pumping rates. Recovery test. Theis, Walton, and Neuman solution for tifferent aquifer types. Drawdown tests. Definition of T through single-well tests. Batu's formulas. Slug tests. Multiple wells and well near aquifer boundaries. Time law. Dewatering.
Part B
Groundwater modeling. Planning and conceptualization. Project, design and construction. Realization of a groundwater model in a real case-study: from the planning to the discussion of the results (project-base learning).
Techniques for the groundwater characterization. 2D/3D ER tomography. In-situ measurements. Analysis and discussion of survey results (project-base learning). Other information will be provided during the Applied Hydrogeology course (recommended).
