Learning Objectives
Basic knowledge of the structure of the Italian State and of the Italian set of rules. Knowledge of the main laws concerning environment, geology and Civil Protection.

Teaching Methods
Lectures, alternating theory and practical examples of how the lesson argument could be conveniently exploited by a practitioner geologist. Visits to headquarters and offices of various Civil Protection bodies (municipalities, provinces, region) to face activities of forecasting, prevention and emergency management

Type of Assessment
Final examination (oral). The student will be required to answer some questions related to the main topics covered in the course. The critical capacity on the problems of the course will then be evaluated.

Organization of the Italian Republic – Sources of jurisprudence - iter legis – Official producers of cartography and environmental data, organization and retrievement – National network for environmental protection – environmental damage – remediation – Hydro-geomorphological hazards and soil protection – city planning and building – soil sealing – hydric resources – mines and excavation – procedures for environmental impact evaluation. --- Set of laws concerning the "National Service of Civil Protection". Methodologies for planning in Civil Potection with special focus on the municipal plan of civil protection. Detailed analysis of the structure and the content of the municipal plan of civil protection. Responsibility in the public administration both for political decisions and for technic/administrative actions. Programs for information and dissemination among citizens exposed to risks, including training activities. Concepts of acceptable risk, subsidiarity and resilience. Analysis of the definition of hazard, vulnerability, exposure and risk. Assessment and evaluation of risk scenarios.
